Edwina T. Pung, age 87, of Melrose, died after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 14 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vince Lieser will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. American Legion Auxiliary will pray at 5 p.m. followed by the Christian Women and Daughters of Isabella at 6 p.m. and parish prayers at 7 p.m. Sunday evening.
Edwina Theresa Pung was born March 21, 1922 in Belgrade, MN to Mike and Isabel (Kolb) Bertram. On October 20, 1941 she married Ignatius Pung in Belgrade. The couple farmed near Spring Hill until retiring in April of 1969. They spent their winters in Phoenix, AZ. Edwina enjoyed flowers, gardening, playing cards, and fishing. She had a love for music and dancing. Edwina was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 101, Christian Women of Spring Hill, and Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle of Melrose.
Survivors include her children, Mike (Marie) Pung of Cold Spring, Dan (Mary Ann) Pung of Spring Hill, and Wilfred (Mavis) Pung of Bakersfield, CA; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Meyer of Belgrade; brothers-in-law, Alquin Leukam of Melrose, Alquin Pung of St. Cloud, and Frank (Ida) Pung of Alamo, TX.
Edwina was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Isabel Bertram; husband, Ignatius on March 15, 1999; and sisters, Leora Leukam, Alice Leukam, and Bea Pung.
Serving as casket bearers will be Julie Pung, Donna Pung, Karl Pung, Justin Thompson, Allen Meyer, and Gary Meyer. Cross bearer will be Lisa Pung and scripture bearer will be Brian Pung.
