Edwin H. "Ed" Zenzen, age 88 of Melrose died Sunday, November 27 after a short battle with cancer at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 30 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. and Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council and Knights of Columbus at 8:30 p.m.Tuesday evening.
Edwin Zenzen was born October 6, 1917 in Lake George Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to John and Emilie (Scholz) Zenzen. Ed served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was united in marriage to Selestia Enneking on June 18, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple farmed in Melrose Township, Stearns County until retiring in 1982. They moved to Melrose in 1990. Ed served on the Melrose Township Planning and Zoning Board and Melrose Mutual Insurance Board of Directors. He enjoyed his grandchildren and traveling. Ed was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Sts. Bernard and Elizabeth Council and a life member of Knights of Columbus, Council #1633 and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050.
Survivors include his wife, Selestia Zenzen of Melrose; children, Art Zenzen and his wife, Marilyn of Plymouth, Wayne Zenzen and his wife, Shirley of Melrose and Carla Peschel and her husband, David of St. Cloud; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother, Ray Zenzen and his wife, Laura of Melrose; sisters, Cecelia Loxtercamp of Elrosa and Sr. Rachel Zenzen, O.S.F.of Little Falls.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and George Zenzen; and one infant sister.
Serving as casket bearers will be Noah Zenzen, Matthew Zenzen, Mark Zenzen, Arnold Zenzen, Harold Zenzen, Reuben Zenzen, Earl Zenzen and Gerald Zenzen. Cross bearer will be Beth Zenzen and scripture bearer will be John Peschel. Honorary bearers will be William Zenzen, Ronald Zenzen, Dennis Loxterkamp, Donald Zenzen, Simon Hellermann, David Orth, Jeffrey Imdieke, Edwin McCarty, Lawrence Wiechmann, James Petermeier, Ralph Hinnenkamp and Alphonse Hiltner. Gift bearers will be Drew Peschel and Ashley Zenzen. Petitions will be read by Molly Kjorstad and Allysa Tarrott.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
