Edwin A. "Eddie" Gaebel, age 90, of Freeport, peacefully slept away on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Golden Years Senior Citizens will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 5 p.m. and St. Joseph's Men's Society at 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
Edwin Gaebel was born February 10, 1916 in Oak Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Mary (Schulte) Gaebel. He farmed all his life south of Freeport until 1980 when he moved to Freeport. Edwin resided at the Assisted Living Apartments and the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany for the last 10 years. He enjoyed watching TV, especially Wheel of Fortune, playing cards, and fishing. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport and the Good Shepherd Mission Group of New Munich.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Raymond Gaebel and his wife, Donna of Waite Park, Cyril Gaebel (Laverne Kipka) of New Munich, Ewald Gaebel (Carol Peterson) of Shoreview, Sr. Laura Gaebel of St. Cloud, and Sr. Cordis Gaebel of St. Cloud; and sister-in-law, Irene Gaebel of Lastrup.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ambrose Gaebel; and sisters, Rosalia Kremer and Marie Bruestle.
Serving as casket bearers will be Larry Gaebel, Don Gaebel, Rob Kremer, Paul Kremer, Ron Gaebel, and Dewayne Gaebel. Cross bearer will be Diane Muske and scripture bearer will be Wanda Gaebel. Honorary bearers will be Jerome Schulte, Clarence Von Wahlde, Harvey Mayers, Ron Hoppe, Kenny Klaphake, Vern Stroeing, Norb Gerads, and Cyril Schneider.
