Edward J. "Ed" Watry, Sr., age 79, of Albany, died surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer, on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 20 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany with Rev. Jonathan Licari, O.S.B. officiating. A private inurnment will be at Seven Dolors Cemetery in Albany at a later date.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Seven Dolors gathering area in Albany. Parish prayers will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday evening.
Edward Watry, Sr. was born May 8, 1929 in Wendell, Minnesota to Herbert and Nina (Spencer) Watry. On June 1, 1950 he married MaDonna H. Lehmann in Fairmount, ND. Edward worked at Cudahay Processing Co. in Fairmount, ND, Century Matthews Motor Freight in International Falls, Co-Op Station in Wendell. The couple then moved to Albany where he managed the Albany Co-Op Station. In the late 60's he owned and operated Watry Hardware Store in Albany and later started Watry Flooring. Edward also drove school bus for the Albany Area District from 2000 to 2004 and retired in 2005. He was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, cribbage, checkers and dominos. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his children, Janice (Gary) Nohner of Richmond, Ardis Watry (Bill Zaier) of Maple Grove, Steven (Mary Lou) Watry of Albany, Herbert (Monica) Watry of Litchfield, Kevin (Monetta) Watry of Albany, Edward Watry, Jr. of Albany, Faye Luberts (Larry Ruether) of Alexandria and Clara (Tom) Hoeschen of Albany; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Clarice Oster of Fargo, ND, Ialeen Burkmann of Blaine and Vernice Berg of Albany.
Edward, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; wife, MaDonna on May 4, 2003; infant son, Arnold Watry; grandson, Adam Watry; and brother, Donald Watry.
The Watry family would like to thank the Coborn Cancer Center, St. Cloud Hospital, Albany Hospital & Clinic, Mother of Mercy Campus of Care, Albany Area Hospice and Kozy Cab for their sincere care during Ed's courageous battle with cancer; and to our family and friends for their support, thoughts and prayers.
Serving as casket bearers will be Ed's children, Janice Nohner, Ardis Watry, Steven Watry, Herbert Watry, Kevin Watry, Edward Watry, Jr., Faye Luberts and Clara Hoeschen. Serving as cross bearer will be Nick Watry and scripture bearer will be Tawnya Arueya. Honorary bearers will be Ed's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
