Edward Von Wahlde

Edward B. Von Wahlde, 77 of West Union died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at his home in West Union, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 30 at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union with Rev. Andrew Marthaler and Rev. James Statz concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish Prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Edward Bernard Von Wahlde was born on April 7, 1931 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Edwin and Johanna (Bussman) Von Wahlde. He went to country school through the 8th grade and then started working for a farmer. He later went to work at a cheese plant in Villard. On September 14, 1954 he married Betty Odegard at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union. They lived in Villard until 1958, when they moved to West Union and Edward started managing the West Union Creamery. The creamery closed in 1968 and for six months Edward delivered milk door to door. In December of 1968, he started with Land O' Lakes and became regional manager for the Northwest area in 1979. In addition to his career at Land O' Lakes, Edward served as the City Clerk of West Union for the last 44 years and spent the last two years serving as mayor. Edward retired from Land O' Lakes in 1994 and spent his free time enjoying his hobbies, golfing, fishing, woodworking, bowling, mowing lawn and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also helped with lawn mowing and snow shoveling at St. Alexius Catholic Church. Edward was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union and the St. Joseph's Society.

Survivors include his children, Linda Marthaler (Tom) of Sauk Centre, Barbara Bentfield (George) of Sauk Centre, and Ronald Von Wahlde (Michelle) of Puyallup, WA; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers Richard Von Wahlde (Alma), Elmer Von Wahlde (Shirley), and Ray Von Wahlde (Rita).Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Von Wahlde on December 10, 2005; parents; sister, Betty Wiener.

Casket bearers will be Jeff Marthaler, Daryl Bentfield, Kyle Bentfield, Josh Springer, Kelly Marthaler, and Dean Repp. Cross bearer will be Angela Marthaler. Honorary bearers will be the St. Joseph's Society.
