Edward R. "Eddie" Middendorf, age 79 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Melrose following the Mass.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Edward Robert Middendorf was born May 22, 1938 in Melrose, Minnesota to Henry and Loretta (Toenyan) Middendorf. He married LouAnn Schlicht on October 18, 1958 in Melrose. They later divorced, and on July 10, 1990, Eddie married Victoria Schmidt in Melrose. He worked as plant manager at Jennie-O Foods in Melrose for 33 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren, fishing, camping, and visiting with people all around town.
Eddie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and a retired volunteer fireman with the Melrose Fire Department.
Survivors include his children, Deb (Keith) Miner of Circle Pines, Terry Middendorf of Minneapolis, Sheila (Robin) Handy of Minneapolis, Jackie (Joe) Tschida of Melrose, Patty (Tim) Welle of Maple Grove, Joan (Rich) Serafin of Northeast Minneapolis, and John Schmidt (Rick Long) of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Brooke (Sam) Schmitz, Nikki Middendorf, Kelly and Samantha Miner, Blake (Alana) Welle, Drew Welle, Michaela (Angelo) Montanari, Brandon (Morghan) Tschida, Eric (significant other, Jennifer Tschida) Tschida, Haley (significant other, Jake Champa) Tschida, Coltrane Serafin, and Oliver Jack Serafin; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Schmitz, Clayton and Makenna Tschida, Landon and Lorelai Welle; sisters and brothers, Mary Ann Butkowski, Viola Meyer, Arleen Arnzen, Lornie (Joyce) Middendorf, Kathy (Kenny) Thomes, Harriet Froelich, and David (Jan) Middendorf; sisters-in-law, Sonja Middendorf, Dorothy Middendorf, and Susan Goodell; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Bobi) Wilbur; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, LouAnn Middendorf; second wife, Vicki Middendorf; and brothers, Walter, Willie, and Connie Middendorf.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
