Edna M. Marthaler, age 81, of Sauk Centre died peacefully Monday, November 24, 2003 at her home.
A memorial service was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating. Ashes were interred in her husband's gravesite at St. Alexius Cemetery, West Union.
Friends called Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre one hour prior to the service.
Edna Marthaler was born on July 21, 1922 in Pierz, Minnesota to Louis W. and Anna (Buesseler) Kummet. She married Paul Marthaler on August 15, 1964 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. She was a graduate of St. Scholastica College in Duluth, Minnesota. Since her marriage she has resided in Sauk Centre. Edna was a librarian for St. John's University; and the Bryant Library in Sauk Centre. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and Senior Citizens Quilting Group.
Survivors include her brother, Leo "Bud" Kummet (Lois) of Phoenix, AZ; and sister, Cleon VanderVennet of Moline, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Marthaler on Nov. 2, 1984; and sister, Rita Graham.
Cross bearer was Mary Ann Polipnick. Urn bearer was Sister Andre Marthaler.
The family requests that memorials are sent to Poor Clare Monastery at 421 Fourth Street South, Sauk Rapids, MN 56379, where Paul Marthaler's sister, Mother Mary Peter is the presiding Mother of the convent.
