Edmund A. "Ed" Toenies, age 79, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ron Dockendorf officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Melrose following a lunch.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church in Grey Eagle. Parish prayers will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the Melrose Fire Department at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
Edmund Andrew Toenies was born May 12, 1931 in Freeport to Henry and Anna (Willenbring) Toenies. He married Audrey Shay on September 10, 1955 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. Ed was employed at Stearns Electric in Melrose for 40 years. He was a caretaker at Meadowlark Country Club in Melrose where he also was entered into the Hall of Fame.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle and the Stearns County Amateur Baseball League. Ed bowled for Earl's Bar and Funky's Restaurant. He was a retiree of the Melrose Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing with his grandson, golfing, deer hunting, baseball, baking, and spending time with his family and friends. Ed loved living at Little Birch Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Toenies of Grey Eagle; children, Michael (Christie) Toenies of Henderson and Kelly Ronning Toenies (fiancé, Doug Goodrich) of Melrose; grandchildren, Michael and Torey Toenies, Tory Day, and Kody Ronning; brothers, Cel (Rita) Toenies of St. Cloud, Al (Marty) Toenies of Royalton, Gene (Nettie) Toenies of Cold Spring, and Rich (Phyllis) Toenies of Kelliher; sister-in-law, Jen Toenies of Melrose; and brother-in-law, Arnold Kemper of Melrose.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marie Rau and LouAnn Kemper; brother, Harry Toenies; and brother-in-law, Louie Rau.
