Edith A. Ritter, age 88 of Melrose, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 29 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Rev. Virgil Petermeier, Rev. Ken Thielman, and Rev. Art Hoppe concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by the Christian Mothers and the Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Edith Anna Maus was born February 8, 1923 in Melrose, Minnesota to Peter and Mary (Doepker) Maus. On June 6, 1946 she married Roman Ritter at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple lived and farmed northeast of Melrose until their retirement in 1982.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council, Association for Retarded Citizens, and St. Mary's Mission Society. Edith taught religion and led the rosary before mass for many years. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and volunteering at local charities.

Survivors include her children, Dennis (Judy) Ritter of Melrose, LuVerne (Jean) Ritter of Melrose, Joann Ritter of Melrose, and Edna (Marvin) Goebel of Albany; ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and brother, Albert (Ana) Maus of San Diego, California.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Roman Ritter on Dec. 31, 2000; parents; grandson, Timothy Ritter; brothers, Raymond Maus, Leo Maus, Wendelin Maus, and Donald Maus; and sisters, Caroline Winters, Florence Miller, Veronica Springer, Frances Waldorf, Mary Maus, and twin sister, Edna Maus.

Serving as casket bearers will be Randy Ritter, Brian Ritter, Kurt Ritter, Scott Ritter, Chad Ritter, Jeremy Goebel, Aaron Goebel and Christopher Goebel. Cross bearer will be Cindy Hellermann and scripture bearer will be Rebecca Lahr.
