Douglas G. "Doug" Scott, age 81 of Sauk Centre, died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at CentraCare Health in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 18 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Adams Cemetery in Villard, Minnesota.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Sauk Centre.
Douglas Glenn Scott was born June 4, 1933 in Westport Township, Pope County, Minnesota to Glenn and Esther (LeCount) Scott. On August 24, 1952 he married Vivian Domke at Vivian's parent's home in Sauk Centre. The couple lived in Villard, Eden Prairie, and Minneapolis before moving to the Twin Cities for 11 years and then to Sauk Centre in December of 1999. Doug farmed in Villard and drove milk truck for the Villard Creamery and then worked as a DHIA milk tester for ten years. He also drove milk truck for Twin City Milk when living in Eden Prairie and drove on his own for ten years out of Glenwood. He later drove over-the-road coast to coast before retiring in December of 1997. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre.
Doug was a jack of all trades and loved to tinker. Anything that was mechanical or broken, he loved to tinker with. He liked working on his tractors, lawn mowers, and liked to try to make his scooter go faster. Doug loved traveling, especially when he was driving big rigs. He liked taking family members to certain places that he had already traveled. Doug enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing and training his Chihuahua for the Iditarod. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Vivian Scott of Sauk Centre; children, Mary Scott of Sauk Centre, Glenn (Lee) Scott of Monticello, John (Lee) Scott of Villard, Lynn (Michael)Placzek of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Gregg Scott (Jeri Johnson) of Sauk Centre, Jane Nelson of Sauk Centre, and Gail Scott of Sauk Centre; ten grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Woida of San Jose, California, Ruth Garvin of Alexandria, and Vida Helms of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and son-in-law, Don Nelson.
Serving as urn bearer will be Glenn Scott. Honorary bearers will be Doug's grandchildren, Jeremy Scott, Josh Scott, John Scott, Jr., Dallas Scott, Troy Scott, Tillie Peart, Andrew Scott, Rachael Johnson, Dan Placzek, and Cori Nelson.
Due to allergies, the family requests memorials in lieu of flowers.
