Dorothy M. "Dolly" Eich, 59, of Melrose died of cancer at home, Thursday, May 13, 2004 with her family present.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose, with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Inurnment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Melrose. Christian Women and VFW Auxiliary 7050 will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Dorothy Eich was born on January 5, 1945 at Albert Lea, Minnesota to Lawrence J. and Alyce J. (Tusen) Scholl. She graduated from Deer River High School. She married Harvey "Bill" Newman on Dec. 31, 1963 and on June 25, 1976 she married John L. Eich at Melrose, MN. Dorothy has resided in Melrose for the last 28 years. She was a waitress in Deer River and Grand Rapids and she also worked at a nursing home in Deer River. For many years she worked at home on the farm in Melrose, and for the past 10 years she has been employed by Jennie-O-Foods, Melrose. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose, Christian Women, and a life member of VFW Auxiliary 7050 in Melrose. Dorothy loved the outdoors. She especially liked gardening, knitting, and cards. She loved to go to the casino and loved spending time with her family and friends, and her 5 grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, John Eich of Melrose; children, Bonnie Koopmeiners (Jeff) of Albany, Lily Servatius (Scot) of Melrose, Joe Eich and Rod Eich of Melrose; 5 grandchildren, Justin and Matthew Koopmeiners, Nathan and Emily Servatius and Colton Engebretson; sisters and brother, Janet Hane of St. Francis, Joyce Duerr (Robert) of Melrose, Ken Scholl (Sandy) of Plymouth.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey "Bill" Newman; father, Lawrence Scholl and mother, Alyce Scholl, Fiala, Tiemann.

Urn bearer will be John Hane and cross bearer will be Jane Szczepanik.

Memorials are preferred to Heartland Hospice, St. Cloud or the American Cancer Society.
