Dorothee A. Sandkamp, age 87 of Long Prairie, formerly of Grey Eagle, died Tuesday, March 23 at the Long Prairie Nursing Home in Long Prairie, Minnesota.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Dorothee Adelle Sandkamp was born May 3, 1922 in Bremen, Germany to Karl and Adelle Alers Lemke. She was united in marriage to Leon Sandkamp, who was originally from Holdingford, on April 30, 1961 in Germany, and later came to the United States in 1963. Dorothee was a long time resident of Grey Eagle until moving to Long Prairie in 2007. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church when she lived Grey Eagle. Dorothee enjoyed reading, knitting, putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing BINGO, and loved shopping. She will be truly missed.
Survivors include her children, Paul (Cynthia) Sandkamp of Florence, Oregon, George (Melanie) Sandkamp of Santa Ana, California, and Doris (Mike) Schmidt of Twin Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and brothers, Heinz Alers Lemke, Herbert Alers Lemke, and Horst Alers Lemke.
Dorothee was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Sandkamp; parents; and brother, Karl Alers Lemke.
