Doris Rose Braegelmann, age 83, passed away early Sunday morning, March 9 at Centra Care Melrose Hospital, after a loving, final visit with her immediate family. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 7 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service in church.
Doris Rose Schulzetenberg was born May 13, 1930 in New Munich to Bernard and Rosa (Welle) Schulzetenberg. She moved with her family to Melrose in 1943, and following graduation from Melrose High School, lived and worked in Minneapolis and Los Angeles, CA. She married Cyril Braegelmann on September 12, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. After that she and her husband lived in the Washington, DC area for nearly 50 years before moving back to Melrose.
Doris was a meticulous homemaker and thoroughly enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing for her family. The frequent social dinners she prepared were enjoyed by friends and her husband's coworkers alike. She was a longtime volunteer at her children's elementary school library and at many church functions. Bowling was one of her favorite pastimes.
Doris is survived by her husband, Cyril; children, Sue (Joe) Giacinto of Vienna, Virginia and Carol Braegelmann of Alexandria, Virginia; grandsons, Samuel and Leo Giacinto, of Vienna, Virginia; brother Edwin (Lorraine) Schulzetenberg of Melrose; and sisters Evelyn (Ken) Cook of Bellevue, Washington and Alice (Al) Mayers of Eagan.
She was preceded in death by daughter Jane on May 1, 2011; parents, Bernard and Rose Schulzetenberg; and brothers and sisters, Verena Thielen, Caroline Mareck, Urban Schulzetenberg, Roman Schulzetenberg, Rita Hinnenkamp, Joseph Schulzetenberg and Frances Berscheit.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
