Donald C. "Don" Swenson, age 88 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 6 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Kevin Born officiating. Inurnment will be at Svea Lutheran Cemetery in Svea, Minnesota.
Visitation will be from 4 to7 p.m Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Donald Curtis Swenson was born July 20, 1924 in Svea, Minnesota to Harry and Ruth Swenson. He grew up in Svea and moved to Bovey. On May 10, 1947 he married Shirley Nix at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bovey. Don owned an independent trucking company and then was employed at Duininck Brothers Construction Company as a truck driver. Donald has been a resident of Sauk Centre since 1986. After retirement he owned and operated Swen's Tree Service in Sauk Centre.
Don was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and playing cards, especially poker at John's Place in Sauk Centre.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Swenson of Sauk Centre; children, Cathy (Paul) Folland of St. Paul, Christy (John) Felling of Sauk Centre, John (Sheri) Swenson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Tommy Swenson of Spicer, Charlene (Mike) Olson of Sauk Centre, and Tim (Gayle) Swenson of Sauk Centre; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris (Don) Hauan of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Shirley Tersch of Lauderdale, Florida, Marvis "Tooty" (Jim) Smith of Roseville, California and Carolyn Moore of Sunburg.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Matthew Folland; brother, Harley Swenson; and sisters, Ruth Elaine Nelson and Joyce Baisley.
Serving as urn bearer will be Tad Felling.
