Donald A. "Don" Schrantz, age 96 of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating. Private family burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.Visitation will be at the church Friday one hour prior to the service.
Donald Schrantz was born June 13, 1913, in Slayton, Minnesota, to Arthur and Anna (Walsh) Schrantz. On July 24, 1948, he married Valeria "Val" Van Heel at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He was the owner of the Sauk Centre Hatchery and was office manager of the Sauk Centre Farmer's Elevator. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a former member of the Sauk Centre Lions Club and was a past president of the Sauk Centre Seniors. As a young man, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, square dancing and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; children, Judy Schrantz (Pat Brophy) of Mendota Heights; Wayne (Mary) Schrantz of Grove Lake; Jane (Paul) Ehlert of Underwood; Mary (Rick) Taube of Lino Lakes; Marlene (John) Rose of Lexington; and John Schrantz of Elrosa; sister, Veronica Ecker of New Munich; 19 grandchildren, Lisa, Amy, Jeremy, Tom, Casey, Michael, Gina, Laura, Sara, Rachel, Hannah, Luke, Timothy, Rebekah, Joseph, Esther, Jason, Tony, Joe; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bernard Schrantz; daughter-in-law, Kim Schrantz; and grandson, Matthew Rose.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
