Donald Moening

Donald J. "Don" Moening, age 81 of Sauk Centre, Minnesota died unexpectedly Thursday, November 6, 2014.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 10 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Jeremy Theis will officiate with interment following in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Donald Joseph Moening was born April 15, 1933 in Padua, Minnesota to Aloys and Minnie (Elfering) Moening. On August 28, 1962 he married Marian Niehaus at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple farmed in Raymond Township, Stearns County for 37 years. During that time he was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, where he served as a council member and trustee. He also served as a member of the township board and the Brooten and Sauk Centre Elevator Boards. Don retired in 1995 and they moved to a home north of Sauk Centre. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.

Don always had a love and respect for nature, especially his evergreens and purple martins. He was a craftsman and master woodworker. He traveled to all 50 states and 11 foreign countries. His grandchildren will always remember his playful nature when they came to visit.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marian Moening of Sauk Centre; seven children, Steve (Sherri) Moening of Padua, Julie Manning of Seattle, WA, Sue Moening of Evergreen, CO, Kathleen (Steven) Fischer of Horace, ND, Mary (Patrick) Doyle of Boulder, CO, Anne (Ryan) Baird of Minneapolis, and Thomas Moening of Sauk Centre; ten grandchildren, Daniel, Aaron, and Brianna Zenner, Jacob Parker, Jacob, Andrew, and Zachary Fischer, Connor Doyle, William Baird and Haley Baird-Dibble; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Bentfield of St. Paul, Jerry Moening of Bloomington, Edmund Moening of Sauk Centre, Joseph (Norma) Moening of Sauk Centre, Art (Sharon) Moening of Plymouth, Carol (Dean) Bristol of Evergreen, CO, Gene (Margie) Moening of Minneapolis, Vern (Kris) Moening of Maple Grove, and Roxanne Moening of Sammamish, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Raymond Moening; and brother-in-law, Don Bentfield.

Serving as casket bearers will be Daniel and Aaron Zenner, Jacob, Andrew, and Zachary Fischer, and Jacob Parker. Cross bearer will be Brianna Zenner and scripture bearer will be Haley Baird-Dibble. Honorary bearers will be Tony Jennissen, Eugene Jennissen, Jerome Peters, Wilfred Arens, Fred Voller, Andy Becker, Clarence Rooney, Wayne Bauer, and Marvin Holmquist.
