Donald R. "Don" Hanauska, age 80 of Albany, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11a.m. Friday, October 28 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany with Rev. Cletus Connors, O.S.B. officiating. Entombment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Seven Dolors Gathering Area in Albany. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. followed by the American Legion Post 482 at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the gathering area.
Donald Robert Hanauska was born July 20, 1936 in Albany, Minnesota to Joseph and Beata (Schwieters) Hanauska. He graduated from Albany High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving in Germany, Don was honorably discharged and returned to Albany where he worked as a barber. He was united in marriage to Ann Imdieke on June 10, 1961 at St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Don later started Don's Bait and Gas which eventually became Don's I94 in Albany.
He was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany and the American Legion Post 482. Don was an all-around nice guy who enjoyed shooting guns, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his children, Bob (Julie) Hanauska of Albany and Julie (Jeremy) Glenz of Albany; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Ashley, Christopher, Sarah, Brody, Carter, Grady, and Callen; and five great-grandchildren, Alex, Brooklyn, Lance, Aubrey, and Austin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Hanauska on July 10, 2011; parents; brother, George Hanauska; and sisters, Rita Gasperlin, Joan Cremers, and Alice Wolf.
Serving as urn bearer will be Brody Glenz. Cross bearer will be Carter Glenz and scripture bearer and reader will be Sarah Hanauska.
