Donald E. "Donnie" Haller, age 68, of Grey Eagle, died after a two year battle with brain cancer on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 13 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Mark Willenbring and Rev. Ronald Dockendorf concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may come from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church in Grey Eagle. The Grey Eagle/Swanville Knights of Columbus will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Thursday evening.
Donald Haller was born April 22, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN. His parents were Michael, Jr. and Angeline (Bruggenthies) Haller. He worked for Hyman Freightways in Minneapolis for 40 years and was Vice President of Operations for the last 20 years. On September 3, 1960 he married Georgianna Muellner at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle. After their marriage, the couple moved to Columbia Heights until October of 1999 when Don retired. Little Birch Lake in Grey Eagle has been their home since. Donnie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, Monsignor Lorsung Council #14616 Knights of Columbus, Police Reserves in Columbia Heights, Columbia Heights Hockey Association, Hartland Chapter of The MN Darkhouse and Angling Association, and he worked for Borderview Lodge on Lake of the Woods until March 2007.
Survivors include his wife, Georgianna "Georg" Haller of Grey Eagle; sons, Michael (Susan) of Coon Rapids, Mark of Rice, Matthew (Pam) of Eau Clare, WI, Donald, Jr. (Lynn) of Andover and Dean (Kim) of Belle Plaine; and grandchildren, Michelle, Kayla, Kendra, Kylee, McKenna, Nicolas, Lauren, Madison and Cole.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents.
Serving as casket bearers will be Michael Haller, Mark Haller, Matthew Haller, Don Haller, Jr., Dean Haller, and Joe Bruggenthies. Cross bearer will be Tom Blaeser and scripture bearer will be Alcuin Bruggenthies. Honorary bearers will be the Msgr. Lorsung Council #14616 Knights of Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Michael's Hospice in Sauk Centre, MN.
