Donald A. "Don" Boucher, age 79 of Grey Eagle, is done working. He died peacefully, surrounded by his
family on Friday, November 29, 2019, at the V.A. Medical Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 6 at the Catholic Church of St.
Joseph in Grey Eagle with Fr. Ron Dockendorf officiating. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in
Ward Springs.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's. The Knights of
Columbus will pray the Rosary at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the church.
Donald Alphee Boucher was born on April 29, 1940, on the Turtle Mountain Reservation in Belcourt,
North Dakota to Marciel and Kathleen (Poitra Zura) Boucher. Don graduated from Rolla High School and
actively served two years in the United States Army. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Business
and Physical Education at Mayville State University where he played football and met the love of his life.
On June 22, 1969, he married Laura Jeanne Elliot. Together they served as educators at Grey Eagle High
School and raised three children. Don coached multiple sports including football, women's track & field,
and men's basketball. He retired from teaching at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle High School and continued to
work as a Driver's Education instructor, substitute teacher, and as a stay-at-home father, a role in which he
earned many accolades.
Don was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Joseph in Grey Eagle and the Monsignor Lorsung
Council #14616 Knights of Columbus. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, biking, athletics, gardening, and
working hard for and alongside his family. His legacy as a hard-working, family-focused, neighborhood
leader will be remembered by all who knew him throughout his life.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years, Laura Boucher of Grey Eagle; children Zachary Boucher
of Plymouth, MA, Leslie (Jared Fairchild) Boucher of Omaha, NE, and LeVi Boucher of Minneapolis,
MN; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. Don was preceded in death by his
parents; sister, Lois Miller; nephew, Marc Butts; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Serving as casket bearers will be Zachary Boucher, Paul VanHavermaet, Chico Hellmann, Brian
Middendorf, Matt Stangler, and Jared Fairchild. Cross bearer will be Jodi Marquez Bierschbach and
scripture bearer will be Elisa Mudgett. Honorary bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus,
Bob Zollar, Mike Kutter, Dennis Wessel, Jack Holpit and Loren Bitz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Knute Nelson Hospice. The family wishes to express deep
appreciation for the passionate care given to Don from the care teams at Knute Nelson Hospice and at the
St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center-Hospice Unit.
