Donald G. "Don" Blank, age 73 of Detroit Lakes, formerly of Sauk Centre, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at his home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Kevin Born officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre. Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 417 of Little Sauk.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Donald Gene Blank was born April 15, 1938 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Otto and Elsie (Bauer) Blank. He served in the National Guard for nine years where he was a motor expert and Staff Sergeant. He was united in marriage to Marie Feucht on April 15, 1961 in Grey Eagle, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple lived in Minneapolis for five years until moving to Sauk Centre in 1966 where they owned and operated the Sauk Centre Coliseum. In 1978, they moved to Detroit Lakes for three years and then moved to Vergas where they owned and operated Hidden Acre Resort. Don's trade was carpentry and worked as a lather for 40 years. He sold the resort in 1993 and hung up his tool belt in 1998.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 417 of Little Sauk. Don enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, playing cards, golfing, and motorcycling.
Survivors include his sons, Craig Blank of Detroit Lakes and Steven (fiancée, Sue Newman) Blank of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Taylor, Kasey, and Kelsey; sister, Betty Lou Carlen of Buffalo; and sisters-in-law, Millie Blank and Irene Blank.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Blank on October 29, 1991; parents; brothers, Henry Blank, Alvin Blank, Arnie Blank, and Bob Blank; and sisters, Fern Herder and Dorothy Kurrell.Serving as casket bearers will be Don's nephews.
