Dennis Poepping

Dennis L. "Denny" Poepping, age 50 of Freeport, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his home in Freeport, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in New Munich following the lunch.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Leo Court 786 Catholic Order of Foresters will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. on Monday.

Dennis Leo Poepping was born February 4, 1964 in Melrose, Minnesota to Melvin and Ermalinda (Dickhaus) Poepping. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1982 and from St. Cloud Vo-Tech. Denny worked as a mechanic at Red's Auto in St. Cloud and currently at Hiltner Company in Freeport. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport and the St. Leo Court 786 Catholic Order of Foresters.

Denny enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fixing up motorcycles, cars, and snowmobiles, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Erma Poepping of Melrose; sisters and brothers, Ann (Michael) Barten of Greenwald, Donna (Leander) Loehr of Elrosa, Toby Poepping of Melrose, Phil (Bonnie) Poepping of New Munich, and Tim (Dawn) Poepping of Cheyenne, WY; and fourteen nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Poepping on November 7, 2013.

Serving as casket bearers will be Joel Barten, Jason Barten, Chris Barten, Calli Poepping, Preston Poepping, Josh Poepping, Nicole Poepping, and Jodi Waltzing. Cross bearer will be Tasha Poepping and scripture bearer will be Ann Barten. Gift bearers will be Toby Poepping, Phil Poepping, Tim Poepping, and Donna Loehr. Reader will be Cindy Hoffman and petitions will be by Missy Frieler.
