Denis J. Wensman, age 77 of Greenwald, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald. Inurnment will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Denis Joseph Wensman was born October 2, 1936 in Freeport, Minnesota to Anton and Rose (Bueckers) Wensman. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Korf on May 9, 1960 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Denis worked as a truck driver and farmer for a number of years and also owned his own bait shop. He last worked as a supervisor for Jennie-O Turkey Store, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald, Greenwald Lions, Green Grove Rod and Gun Club, and the American Legion Post 67 in Sauk Centre. Denis was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and also enjoyed playing cards. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Denis is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Wensman of Greenwald; children, Robin (Tena) Wensman of Sauk Centre, Karen (Paul) Zimmerman of Duluth, Kathy (Jeff) Adams of Sauk Centre, and Ryan (Melinda) Wensman of Melrose; grandchildren, Zack and Zane Wensman, Sarah and Andrew Zimmerman, Nicholas and Morgan Adams, and Ashlyn and Owen Wensman; brothers and sisters, Bob (Shirley) Wensman of Sauk Centre, Linus (Mary Lou) Wensman of Crystal, Arlene Wensman of Belgrade, Carol (David) Mott of Onamia, Lois (Mike) of Des Parte, Georgia, and Cynthia (Victor) Cohen of Nevada; sisters-in-law, Marcy Wensman of Arizona and Pat Wensman of Paynesville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Rose Wensman; brothers, Ado and Melvin Wensman; granddaughter, Addison Lee Wensman; and father and mother-in-law, Herman and Catherine Korf.
Serving as urn bearer will be Robin Wensman and honorary bearers will be Denis's grandchildren. Cross bearer will be Karen Zimmerman and scripture bearer will be Kathy Adams. Serving as gift bearers will be Jeff Adams, Ryan and Melinda Wensman and their children, Ashlyn and Owen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
