David Walter

David J. "Dave" Walter, age 74, of Sauk Centre, died peacefully after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, July 13, 2013 surrounded by his family at his home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Bishop Busch Council #4863 Knights of Columbus will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

David Joseph Walter was born January 19, 1939 in Todd County, Minnesota to Joseph and Eleanor (Winter) Walter. Dave married Marian Manders on February 11, 1964 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He was passionate about working on his dairy farm, being in the field and up in the barn. Dave also enjoyed playing cards, working with wood, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Bishop Busch Council #4863 Knights of Columbus, and Minnesota Farmers Union.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Marian Walter of Sauk Centre; daughter, Patricia (Troy) Yeske of Coon Rapids and their children, Gabe, Nick, Olivia and Ben; daughter, Susan Ingham of Elk River and her children, Nicole, John and Eric; son, David M. (Cathy) Walter of Sauk Centre and their children, Forrest, Brooke, Miles, Lanna and Haddie; daughter, Peggy (Troy) Olson of St. Paul and their children, Natalie and Mason; and brothers and sister, Joann (Glen) Mielke of Kandiyohi, Harold (Sharon) Walter of Osakis, Melvin (Sharon) Walter of Sauk Centre, Allen (Elaine) Walter of Sauk Centre, Gene (Deb) Walter of Sauk Centre, Vern (Margret) Walter of Sauk Centre, and Mark (Lois Marthaler) Walter of Sauk Centre.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Eleanor Walter; son, John Joseph Walter on July 25, 1992; sister, Kathleen Marthaler; brothers-in-law, Donald Marthaler, Loren Evans, and Duane Haakinson; and parents-in-law, Walter Manders, Delores Joarnt, and Ray Joarnt.

Serving as casket bearers will be Joe Walter, Tim Walter, Jeff Walter, Matthew Walter, Todd Marthaler, and Chad Marthaler. Cross bearer will be Nancy Tanselle and scripture bearer will be Brenda Nealy. Gift bearers will be Eric Ingham, Ben Yeske, Miles Walter, and Mason Olson. Readers will be Brenda Nealy and Gabe Yeske. Songs will be led by Brooke Walter. Honorary bearers will be Ray and Norma Karasch, Joan Voller, Leander and Fronie Moritz, Clifford and Janet Jennissen, Roger Schwinghamer, Vic and Merina Odegard, Rich and Alice Peters, Don and Lois Wiener, Judy and Jerry Zenzen, Dave and Irma Bromenshenkel, Leona Trattels, Marlene "Mo" Otte, and Marilyn Schindler.
