David E. "Chico" Elliott, age 60 of Melrose died Saturday, January 7, 2006 of complications from cancer at his home in Melrose, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 10 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Kevin Born officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Melrose.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. There will be a family and friends sing-a-long at 7 p.m. followed by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening.
Dave Elliott was born March 26, 1945, in Willmar, Minnesota to Luverne and Hazel (Burchill) Elliott. He graduated from Kerkhoven High School and then joined the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Marit Roisum on August 4, 1973 in Kerkhoven, Minnesota. Dave was employed by Kraft Foods of Melrose and then owned and operated Melrose Body Shop. He was a dispatcher for the City of Melrose for 19 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre, the Melrose American Legion Post 101 and a volunteer fireman for the City of Melrose from 1978 to 1998, serving as Vice President from 1980 to 1987. Dave enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandson, William. He was an avid fan of the Melrose Dutchmen sporting events and theatre productions and the St. John's athletic teams, and he enjoyed watching NASCAR. After his son, Adam, was injured in a car accident in 2003, he lived with Adam at the Country Manor Nursing Home in Sartell until Adam was able to return home in April of 2005.
Survivors include his parents, Luverne and Hazel Elliott of Willmar; wife, Marit of Melrose; his children, Karn Moening and her husband, Ryan of Melrose, Blake and his fianc+, Noelle Gunderson of Robbinsdale, Katie, a student at the College of St. Thomas and Adam, at home; grandson, William Moening; brother and sister, Derrol Elliott of Arizona and Dorothy Poverud and her husband, Vic of Willmar; brother-in-law, Lee Roisum and his wife, Carol of New York, New York; sister-in-law, Marlys Roisum of Willmar; and buddies, Pug and Lulu.
David was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis in 1979; sister-in-law, Carol Elliott on January 2, 2006; and brother-in-law, Dwain Roisum in 2001.Serving as casket bearers will be Keith Elliott, Kyle Elliott, Josh Poverud, Daryl Oja, Kevin Olmscheid and Russ Braegelman. Honorary bearers will be retired Melrose firemen.
