Daniel J. "Dan" Klein, age 66 of Ramsey, died peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 4 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Private interment will be Monday, May 5 in St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 12 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 14501 Nowthen Blvd., Ramsey, Minnesota with Pastor David Lechelt officiating.
Daniel John Klein was born March 9, 1948 in Melrose, Minnesota to John, Jr. and LaVonne (Wildman) Klein. He graduated in 1967 from Sauk Centre High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He married Marcella Stock on June 26, 1972 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany and they later divorced. He was a carpenter and built homes for Bob Schmidt Construction. He was later an independent contractor and then worked for Srock Construction in Alexandria. On December 31, 1990 he married Char Hansen in Ramsey, Minnesota where the couple made their home.
Since 1992 Dan had worked at the Mall of America, most recently as a maintenance manager. He enjoyed and took great pride in his work and made sure that it was "done the right way."
Dan liked to spend time outdoors, lawn mowing and cutting down trees and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Char Klein of Ramsey; three children, Gina (Todd) Thompson of Sauk Rapids, DeAnn (Matt) Heinen of Sauk Rapids and Jason (fiancé Alicia Pufpaff) Klein of Rice; two step-children, Cindy Johnson of Spokane, Washington and Cathy (Randy) Kinney of Glenwood; 14 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Barb (Dave) Wiegers of Monticello, Sharon Klein of Shakopee, Michael "Mickey" Klein of Sauk Centre, Judy (Joe) Deters of Sauk Centre, David (Bonnie) Klein of Shakopee and Janelle (Scott) Polipnick of Sauk Centre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mark and Thomas Klein.
Serving as casket bearers will be Tyler and Travis Heinen, Brett Klein, Jesse Thompson, Brittney Cutter and Jacob Klein, Andrew and Riley Kinney. Honorary bearers will be Makenna Sparks, Treyton and Tristin Heinen.
