Daniel A. "Dan" Hoppe, age 72, of Sauk Centre, passed away after a battle with cancer on Saturday, September 14, 2013 surrounded by his family at CentraCare Health Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 19 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Dick McGuire officiating. Entombment will follow in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 18 and from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 19 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by a prayer service by the United Veterans Honor Guard and American Legion 40 & 8 at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Daniel Albert Hoppe was born April 17, 1941 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Albert and Katherine (Woebkenberg) Hoppe. He graduated from Albany High School then joined the United States Navy and Airforce. Dan was united in marriage to Mary Jane Burg on May 2, 1970 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. He worked for the Stearns County Sheriff's Department for 29 years, and then was a rural courier for the United States Postal Office. Dan also worked for Cenex and drove cars for Boyer Motors over the years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, bowling, driving tractor, playing cribbage, drinking coffee, and playing with his grandkids.

Dan is a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, American Legion Post 67, American Legion 40 & 8 Society, Sauk Centre Eagles, Sauk Centre Lions, and Bishop Busch Council #4863 Knights of Columbus.

Dan is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Hoppe of Sauk Centre; children, Jessie Hoppe of Sauk Centre, Missy Hoppe of Melrose, Troy (Sabrina) Hoppe of Alexandria, Angela (Jason) Marthaler of Sauk Centre, and Patrick (Heidi) Hoppe of Albany; grandchildren, April, Simon, Max, Maddie, Carolyn, and Katherine; and brothers and sisters, Raymond Hoppe of Little Falls, James (Patricia) Hoppe of Forrest Lake, Thomas (Marion) Hoppe of Young America, Aloys "Pete" (Joyce) Hoppe of Paynesville, John "Jack" Hoppe of Shakopee, Elizabeth "Betsy" Keep of Plymouth, and Louise "Weezie" Hoppe Mermod of San Rafael, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cecelia Olson; brothers, Jerome, Joseph and Cyril Hoppe; and father-in-law, Tony Burg.

Serving as urn bearers will be Michelle Ackerman, Dan's brothers, sisters, and brothers-in-law. Cross bearer will be April Marthaler and scripture bearer will be Olivia Heinze. Gift bearers will be Vincent and Simon Marthaler and Dan's grandchildren. Honorary bearers will be the coffee guys.
