Daisy L. Meier, age 89 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by her family Thursday, September 23, 2010 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 25 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Marty Porter will officiate with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Daisy Meier was born on July 6, 1921 in Odessa, Minnesota to Ben and Emily (Hoernemann) Cheadle. On September 6, 1941 she married Ervin Meier at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Unity, south of Sauk Centre. The couple farmed near Padua for a time. In 1947 they began farming west of Sauk Centre in Sauk Centre Township. Daisy moved to Riverview Manor in Sauk Centre in 2001 and in February of 2010 she moved to Fairway Pines Assisted Living. For the past month, she had been a resident of St. Michael's Nursing Home.
Daisy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years, Ladies Aid, and Cozy Corners Homemakers Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, square dancing, gardening, baking, and volunteering at the nursing home and at the church with special needs children.
Survivors include five children, Kenneth (Connie) Meier of Sauk Centre, Alfred (Julie) Meier of Fridley, Darlene Folk Meier of St. Cloud, Linda (Gregory) Desrosiers of Surrey, British Columbia, and Rodney (Ruth) Meier of Sauk Centre; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; brothers, Art Cheadle of Hot Springs, South Dakota and Ray (Lavina) Cheadle of Villard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin Meier on October 15, 2001; brothers and sisters, Miles, Aaron, Donald, and Calvin Cheadle, Eleanor Pyles, Luella Betow, and Dorothy Adams.
Serving as casket bearers will be her grandsons, Kevin, Craig, Alan, Ryan and Roman Meier, John and Rob Folk. Honorary bearers will be her granddaughters, Kim Hanauska, Cori Schulte, Krissy Tykwinski, Renee Cossette, Jody Schoonover, Marlene Folk-Schlangen, and Nancy Folk.
