D. Tim Rice, age 70 of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Rebecca Thomas will officiate with military honors provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard. Private inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Tim Rice was born August 22, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the youngest child of Jacob and Ida (Wiippa) Rice. At the age of 17, he joined in the U.S. Army and served one enlistment. He returned home to Minneapolis and met the love of his life, Shirley K. Petersen. The two were married on March 1, 1958 in Minneapolis and raised their two children. He was a 30-year employee of the Parts Division of General Motors in Edina and a proud member of the United Auto Workers Union (UAW). He retired in 1994 and since 1996 the couple had resided in their home on Sauk Lake. For the past several years, he had been a part-time driver for Dan Welle's Southtown. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.A motorcycle enthusiast, he enjoyed driving the black top country roads. He spent his retired life living his dream of visiting historic civil war battle grounds. He was also a great NASCAR racing fan and enjoyed watching the races at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria. For the past decade, Tim and Shirley would spend part of their winter in Lake Havasu City, Arizona where they enjoyed taking tours and walking together to the London Bridge.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Shirley of Sauk Centre; son, Rick Rice of Minneapolis, and granddaughter, Brianna; daughter, Missey Rice of Minneapolis, and grandson, Aaron; and countless family and friends who will miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Roser; brothers, Dick, Danny, and Bob Rice.

Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church.
