Cyril G. Schreifels, age 83, of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2011 at his home in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 11 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Deacon Ernie Kociemba assisting. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

Cyril George Schreifels was born January 27, 1928 in Richmond to John and Frances (Kron) Schreifels. He married Valeria Stueve on June 11, 1952 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. Cyril drove truck for Litchfield Produce in Melrose and then was a salesman and drove truck for Kemps for 13 years. He was a maintenance engineer for the Melrose School District for 27 years when he retired in 1986. Cyril continued working at Schreifels Variety in Melrose with Val until 1992 when they both retired and started with their travels.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Cyril was one of the first members of the Civil Defense of Melrose and the first secretary for 4H (Adley Creek).He enjoyed woodworking, ice spearing, bowling, horseshoes, playing cards, going on trips, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Valeria Schreifels of Melrose; children, Diane (Bernard) Bueckers of Albany, Earl (Lynn) Schreifels of Brooklyn Park, Dale (Cheryl) Schreifels of Ramsey, Gary (Jan) Schreifels of Glencoe, Keith (Barb) Schreifels, of Monticello, Gwen (Lyle) Gray of Entiat, WA, David (Karen) Schreifels of Newnan, GA, and Susan (Greg) Ramler of Albany; 11 grandsons, 11 granddaughters, 12 great-grandchildren, and one due in April; sisters, Ellen Primus of Hawley, Esther Steinemann of Freeport, Del Gieske of Melrose, Alice Moening of Melrose, and Iris Hiltner of Melrose.

Cyril was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Schreifels; daughter, Jelene (Schreifels) Hinnenkamp; son-in-law, Tom Derichs; brothers, Victor, Marc, and Howard Schreifels; and sisters, Julie Schreifels and Celesta Denne.

Serving as casket bearers will be Jeremy Schreifels, Rod Bueckers, Nick Schreifels, Eric Ramler, Ryan Schreifels, Eric Schreifels, and Shawn Derichs. Cross bearers will be Sharon Nelson and Cindy Wiechmann. Scripture bearer will be Sandy Partyka. Gift bearers will be Diane Bueckers, Sue Ramler, and Gwen Derichs. Reader will be Wanda Gaebel. Eucharistic Minister will be Barb Schreifels. Honorary bearers will be Cyril's sisters, Alice Moening, Esther Steinemann, Del Gieske, Iris Hiltner, and Ellen Primus. The eulogy will be read by Keith Schreifels. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
