Cyril J. "Peanuts" Friedrichs, age 81 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully Monday, October 12, 2009 surrounded by his family at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 14 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Todd Schneider will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Peanuts Friedrichs was born January 19, 1928 in Greenbush, Minnesota to Leo and Helen (Kulus) Friedrichs. He attended country school through the eighth grade. On September 28, 1950 he married Fern Pettit at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple farmed from 1950 to 1969 and owned and operated the Pettit Children's Home from 1968 to 1982. He was a partner of Friedrichs Tire & Oil from 1970 to 1977 and then owned and operated an excavating business from 1977 to 1996. After his retirement he delivered parts for the NAPA Auto Parts in Sauk Centre.
Peanuts was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Sauk Centre Country Club. He had served as a school board member for the Little Sauk School. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, watching his grandchildren's activities, holidays with his family, winter trips to Laughlin, Nevada, taking care of his lawn, visiting with family and friends, and telling jokes.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Friedrichs of Sauk Centre; six children, Jim (Sandi) Friedrichs, Ken (Therese) Friedrichs, Cathy (Dave) Von Wahlde, Nancy (Lonney) Olson, Linda (Jim) Beste, and Pam (Bill) Zehrer, all of Sauk Centre; 17 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; sister, Irene Blank of Sauk Centre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jerome and Gerard "Bud" Friedrichs.
Serving as casket bearers will be Joe and Mike Friedrichs, Nick Marthaler, Shawn Olson, Jamie Beste, and Casey Zehrer. Cross bearer will be Megan Zehrer, scripture bearer will be Josh Beste, and gift bearers will be Micki Friedrichs, Dacia Kane, Jill and Angie Friedrichs. Honorary bearers will be Angela Friedrichs & John and Nathan; Bill and Sara Friedrichs; Micki Friedrichs; Jill Friedrichs; Angie and Ava Friedrichs and Joe Fuechtmann; Kristi and Nick Hoffman & Addison and Will; Jodi Marthaler; Wendy and Kyle Tschida; Sara Von Wahlde & Wyatt and Greg Bodle; Dusty Von Wahlde; Jessica Olson & Arin, Abbey, Dylan, and Davis; Dacia and Pat Kane; Cody and Marie Olson; Josh Beste; Luke Zehrer; and Megan Zehrer.
