Connie Salzman, age 93, of Melrose, died peacefully May 25, 2006 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose, with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Connie Salzman was born June 10, 1912 in Holdingford, Minnesota to Reinhold and Katherine (Jaspers) Salzman. He married Harriet I. Pacey on March 14, 1935 in Worthington, Minnesota. They lived in Worthington, Minnesota where he did auto body and machine work until 1938. They moved to Melrose where he worked with his brother until 1972 when he started Connie's Auto Body Shop. Connie loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a former member of Knights of Columbus, former acting Mayor and council member for the city of Melrose for many years, charter member of the Melrose Area Ambulance until 1995, and he worked for Mel TV-3 for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Salzman of Melrose; children, Jean Seep (Donald) of Minneapolis and Irene Hopkins (Michael) of Batavia, IL; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhold and Katherine Salzman; daughter, Beverly Olmscheid; brother, Edward Salzman; and 1 granddaughter, Christine Seep.
Casket bearers will be Brian, Bruce, Gary, and Christopher Olmscheid, Tim, Terry and Jim Seep, Justin MacKinnon and Eric Leuck. Cross bearer will be Linda MacKinnon. Scripture bearer will be Diane Seep. Honorary bearers will be Henry Ahrens, Ivan Blenker, Ervin Dettler, Bruce Carlson, Michael Hellermann, Allen Horn, Paul Hughes, Tony Janke, Orville Jacobson, Larry Osendorf, Gerald Osendorf, Bill Rausch, Omar Sieben, Mark Sunderman, Roy Tieman, Bob Derichs, Jim Moscho, Dick Horn, Rodger Pashke, Ken Maus, Betty Lahmers and Ray Maus.
