Clayton A. Carpenter, age 98 of Sauk Centre, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Interment will follow in Greenwood cemetery. Military honors provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Clayton Alton Carpenter was born December 22, 1912 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Dwight and Bertha (Robertson) Carpenter. After graduating from high school, Clayton attended St. Cloud State University. He served in the United States Navy for three years during WWII. His tours took him to the South Pacific, Guam, Guadalcanal, and Iojima. When Clayton came home he resumed farming and became very prominent in the Minnesota Angus cattle farming community. He continued farming until he retired in 1996.
Clayton was a lifelong member of the Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853, Minnesota Angus Association, and the American Angus Association.
Survivors include his brother, Cy (Frances) Carpenter of Bloomington; and sisters, Mildred (George) Engdahl of Anoka, Alta (Harry) Hanson of Sauk Centre, and Jeanette Wolff of Bloomington.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald, Robert, Russ, and Roger Carpenter; and sister, Betty Engdahl.
