Clarence P. Walther, age 89 of Sauk Centre, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and at the church one hour prior to the service Monday. Sauk Centre United Veterans prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Clarence Walther was born September 20, 1918 in Murray County, Minnesota to Charles and Bessie (Ankrum) Walther. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On September 8, 1945 he married Irene Volkmann at the Zion Lutheran Church parsonage in Alexandria, Minnesota. The couple farmed near Westport, Osakis, and Sauk Centre and Clarence also did masonry work. Since 1971 they had resided in Sauk Centre. He was employed by Jennie-O Foods in Melrose for 17 years, retiring in 1990.Clarence was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards, taking walks, and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Walther of Sauk Centre; four children, Wallace (Jane) Walther of St. Cloud, DiAnn Ware of Fountain Hills, Arizona, LeRoy (Pam) DoroshWalther of Coon Rapids, and Caroline Kloos of Fountain Hills, Arizona; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughters, Jade DoroshWalther and Melissa Walther; brothers, Charles, John, Edward, Frank, Alfred, George, Lloyd, and Floyd Walther; and sister, Mable Chicca.

Serving as casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Mike, Jeff, and Eric Walther, Dominique and Shalan Ware, Blair and Tyler DoroshWalther, and Abby Kloos.
