Clarence J. "Junior" Hornick, Jr., age 63 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at his home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Clarence Joseph Hornick, Jr. was born February 24, 1951 in Springfield, Minnesota to Clarence, Sr. and Cecelia (Sellner) Hornick. On April 8, 1972 he married Susan Beuning at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Clarence worked on his dairy farm until his retirement in 2005. He and Sue then moved to Sauk Centre where he began to work for Bayer Interior Woods (Cabinet Components) until June of 2011.
He was a member and usher at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Bishop Busch Council #4863, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Villard American Legion, and CM TEC 151. Clarence enjoyed hunting with his boys, especially in South Dakota, bowling, working with cattle, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Hornick of Sauk Centre; children, Andrew "Andy" Hornick (Amy Sand) of Nicollet, Patrick Hornick of Granite Falls, Matthew (Cary) Hornick of Timber Lake, South Dakota, Mark (Missy) Hornick of Sauk Centre, and Michael Hornick (Sarah Jo Schmitz) of Sauk Centre; 12 grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Ann (Dave) Grams of North Mankato, Phyllis (Roger) Zummach of Hutchinson, Alice (John) Johnson of Plymouth, and Tena (Dennis) Dorner of New England, North Dakota.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents.
Serving as casket bearers will be Andrew Hornick, Patrick Hornick, Matthew Hornick, Mark Hornick, Michael Hornick, and Tom Theis. Cross bearers will be Tom Hornick and Jackson Hornick and scripture bearers will be Isaiah Hornick and Charlie Hornick. Honorary bearers will Jim Leukam, Tino Voitt, Tom Moening, Jim Marthaler, Rod Meier, Mike Kortan, Gary Messer, Vern Beste, Gary Kirkoff, and the Fraternal Eagle Brothers.
