Clarence R. "Dick" Anderson, Jr., age 85, of Melrose, died peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Melrose Veterans Honor Guard will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Clarence Richard Anderson, Jr. was born September 14, 1927 in Ferndale, Washington to Clarence, Sr. and Alice (Bakkom) Anderson. He attended school in Melrose, joined the army and served in the occupational forces in Japan. He graduated from St. Cloud State as a social studies and art teacher and enjoyed coaching basketball and track at Monticello High School. He worked in Greenland for the U.S. Military and returned to Melrose to marry the love of his life, LaNita Zinniel. They married on November 8, 1952 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They lived in California for ten years where he began his career in sales and later returned to Melrose. He was a member of the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050, American Legion Post 101, and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose.
Survivors include his children, Cecilia (Pete) Tylutki of Melrose, Pat (Tom) Hollermann of Alexandria, Cindy Weisbrich of Chesapeake, VA, Michael (Doris) Anderson of Chanhassen, John (Lisa) Anderson of Lester Prairie, Jim Anderson of Melrose, and Mary Jane Anderson of St. Cloud; ten grandchildren, Nicholas (Penny) Tylutki, Nathan Tylutki, Matthew and Christine Hollermann, Justin Weisbrich, Elizabeth and Grace Anderson, Amy (Travis) Anderson, Timothy (Anna) Anderson, and Jake Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Blake and Grant Tylutki, Brody and Clayton Wanous; sisters, Jan (Lawrence) Williams of Melrose, Sharon Staley of Melrose; and sister-in-law Carole Anderson of Melrose.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, LaNita in 2008; his parents; brother, Allan in 1991; grandson, Kyle Weisbrich in 2006.
Serving as urn bearers will be Tim Anderson and Nicholas Tylutki.
