Charlie H. Hegg, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Monday, February 21, 2005 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 6 days.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 24 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Kevin Born will officiate with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service.
Charlie Hegg was born April 15, 1914 in Kensington, Minnesota to Carl and Nellie (Swanson) Hegg. He lived and worked in the Kensington, Hoffman and Morris area until he and his wife, Gladys, moved to Sauk Centre in 1942. On December 24, 1937 he married Gladys Gerdes in Morris. They had three children, Wayne, Bruce and Gayle.Charlie worked for Midland Cooperative for over 50 years. First in Morris as a bulk oil driver and then in Sauk Centre. As manager of the coop in Sauk Centre he led the cooperative to many years of growth and prosperity, providing service for Sauk Centre and the surrounding area. After he retired, Charlie continued to work at the coop as a bookkeeper until the doors closed.In his free time he was active in the Lions Club and the Masons, as well as being involved with fast pitch softball. Over the years Charlie spent many hours hunting and fishing, whether in Minnesota, Canada or out west in Montana and Wyoming. He also enjoyed working on his farm on Long Lake, raising his sheep and harvesting his never ending crop of rocks.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gladys; son, Bruce Hegg and his wife, Jackie of Sauk Centre and their children, Candace and Wayne; daughter, Gayle Keehr and her husband, Bill of Marshall and their children, Aaron Keehr and Tena Lorette and her husband, Rick; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by their son, Wayne in 1967; brother, Ernest; sisters, Viola, Rosella, Florence, Esther and Ruth.
Serving as casket bearers will be Aaron Keehr, Wayne Hegg, Rick Lorette, Gary and Terrance Gerdes and Jim Proell. Honorary bearers will be Pat and Dave DuBois, Hubert Zirbes and Virgil Quade.
Charlie lived a long and full life and over the course of those years, touched many people's lives. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and he will be missed by all.
