Charles L. "Chuck" Peterson, age 83 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully Friday, October 22, 2010 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 27 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard with interment following in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5:15 p.m. followed by United Veterans prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Charles "Chuck" Peterson was born October 20, 1927 in Great Falls, Montana to Edvin and Louise (Gay) Peterson. He was a graduate of Great Falls Memorial High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines as a surveyor. He had attended Great Falls College of Education and the University of Oregon and graduated from the University of Colorado with a bachelors of science degree in civil engineering. He also had a professional engineering license. He was employed by Minnesota Natural Gas, later called Minnegasco, and designed and built the gas system for many communities in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota. In June of 1974 he married Doris (Bussmann) Weiner in Wayzata, Minnesota. The couple resided in Racine, Wisconsin where Chuck was the superintendent of operations for Wisconsin Natural Gas. He retired in 1990 and they moved to Sauk Centre.

Chuck was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, a life member of American Legion Post 67, and a member of the Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853, and 40/8 Voiture 415. He enjoyed sports including golf and fishing, and their extensive travel throughout the United States and abroad.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Peterson of Sauk Centre; three children, Karen Peterson of Eden Prairie, Steven (Mary Lou) Peterson of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, and Kristine (Nick) Fuster of Lyons, Colorado; six grandchildren, Jeff and Amy Phillips, Kari and John Peterson, Regina and Lulu Fuster; one great grandson, Julian Rosello; brother, Gordon Dale Peterson of Bowie, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edvin Peterson, Jr. and Jack Peterson; sisters, Bernice Rust, Virginia Peterson, and Delores Cherry; and an infant sibling.

Serving as casket bearers will be Chuck Kraker, Brian Poepping, Ronald and Brian Bussmann, Dennis Goebel, Eugene Theiler, and Danny Hansen. Cross bearer will be Jeff Phillips and lector will be Jenny Mayers.Honorary bearers will be members of American Legion Post 67, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853, and 40/8 Voiture 415.
