Charles Finch, Jr.

Charles D. "Chuck" Finch, Jr. age 74 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Elk River and St. Cloud, died unexpectedly Monday, April 28, 2014 at his home.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Greg Paffel will officiate with inurnment following in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Charles Dwane Finch, Jr. was born August 28, 1939 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Charles and Anna (Pfieffer) Finch. He was raised in Sauk Centre and served in the Army National Guard. On June 8, 1959 he married Judith Gilbertson at the rectory of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.

Chuck was a chef and was known for his beautiful ice carvings. He was employed by St. Cloud State University until 1977, was then a traveling chef for ARA Food Service for five years before moving to the University of St. Thomas in 1982. He retired in 2004 and the couple moved back to Sauk Centre.

Chuck was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and a faithful participant at the Sr. Faustina Adoration Chapel for the past eight years.

Chuck was an avid fisherman and enjoyed duck hunting and camping with his family and friends. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Finch of Sauk Centre; four children, Timothy Finch of Mound, Tracey (James) Johnson of Mora, Thomas Finch of Sauk Centre and Alicia (Geno) Kocur of Blaine; six grandchildren, Kati (David) Prantner, Ann Finch, Joseph Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Christopher Kukowski and Charlie Finch; two great granddaughters, Alyce and Tirzah; sister and brother, Helen (Ed) Schramel of St. Cloud and Bob (Joan) Finch of Pueblo, Colorado; brothers-in-law, Larry (Isabel) Gilbertson of Sauk Centre and Neal (Stephanie) Gilbertson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Jo (Pat) Glinnon of Sauk Centre and Peggy Gilbertson of Richfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Michael on December 17, 1959; sisters, Donna Mae Pimentol and Susan Bailey; and brother-in-law, James Gilbertson.

Serving as urn bearer will be Joseph Johnson, cross bearer will be Charlie Finch, scripture bearer will be Joshua Johnson and honorary bearer will be Christopher Kukowski.
