Celina M. Althaus, age 88 of Melrose, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, July 31, 2017 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.
A celebration of Celina's life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. A family inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Melrose.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Celina Margaret Braegelmann was born January 10, 1929 in Richmond, Minnesota to Leo and Mary (Olk) Braegelmann. She was united in marriage to Raymond Althaus on April 30, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. Celina worked Koenig's Variety as a clerk for 16 years before retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary. Celina loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, embroidering and quilting, gardening, puzzles, and baking; her pies were second to none.
Survivors include her children, Ron (Mary) Althaus of Melrose and Mary Kaye (Tim) Garvey of White Bear Lake; daughter-in-law, Diane Althaus; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; brothers, Cyril Braegelmann of Melrose and Nick Braegelmann of Melrose; sister Gysella Moore of Eagle Lake; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Celina was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Althaus on February 22, 2000; parents; sons, David Althaus in 2014 and Ken Althaus in 1991; brothers, Linus Braegelmann and Celestine "Mike" Braegelmann; and sister, Leona Althaus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
