Cecelia Emmel, age 96 of Sauk Centre, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 18 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Sylvester Kleinschmidt will officiate with interment following in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Grey Eagle.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.

Cecelia Emmel was born on April 5, 1908 in Buckman, Minnesota to Frank and Margaret (Terhaar) Hortsch. On September 22, 1936 she was united in marriage to Albert Emmel in Morrill, Minnesota. The couple owned and operated the Sidewalks Bar in West Union for 28 years. They also farmed in the Big Birch Lake area, near Grey Eagle. Following her husband's death she moved to Sauk Centre and for the past five years she had been a resident of St. Michael's Nursing Home. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Rich) Walkowiak of Duluth, Karen (Jerry) Kroiss of Longmont, Colorado; two grandsons, Dr. Eric (Carrie) Haacke Golden of Richmond, Virginia and Brian (Priscilla Ngo) Golden of Minneapolis; great granddaughter, Katherine Skye Haacke Golden; step-grandchildren, Kyle (Deana) Walkowiak of Duluth, Dean (Amy Louro) Walkowiak of Mesa, Arizona, Lisa (Tim) Fish of Gilbert, Stacy (Keith) Stanek of Lakeview, Kimberly (Peter Chittum) Kroiss of San Jose, California; step-great grandchildren, Ashley, Amber, Devan and Emma; sisters and brothers, Philomene Teuber of St. Cloud, Olivia Bentfield of Osakis, Xavier (Evelyn) Hortsch of Little Falls and Larry (Marion) Hortsch of Burnsville; nephew, Dale (Carol) Emmel of Sauk Centre; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret (Terhaar) Hortsch; husband, Albert Emmel on June 22, 1981; sisters and brother, Adeline and Marie Hortsch, Helen Kappas and John Hortsch.
