Catherine "Kay" Moineau, age 82 of Sauk Centre, died Friday, August 19, 2005 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 23 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Andrew Marthaler will officiate with interment following in St. Alexius Cemetery in West Union.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Christian Mothers will pray at 5 p.m. followed by United Auxiliaries at 7 p.m., Eagles Auxiliary at 7:30 p.m. and parish prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Kay Moineau was born June 19, 1923 in West Union, Minnesota to Joseph J. and Mary Ann (Botzet) Marthaler. In September, 1945 she married John "Jack" Moineau at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union. The couple resided in Chicago, Illinois for 25 years, where she was employed as an account manager for a bank. They moved to West Union and owned Jack's Pool Hall for five years. Following the death of her sister, Crescenthia, in 1973, Kay raised the two youngest sons, David Shonka and Ronald Johnson. She later worked as a line worker for HEI in Sauk Centre for ten years and after her retirement, moved to Sauk Centre.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Sinclair Lewis Aerie 3847 Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 Auxiliary.
Kay will be remembered as a very sophisticated and elegant woman who loved to entertain guests, travel and enjoyed all kinds of music and dancing.
Survivors include her sister, Marie (Orville) Merten-Vangstad of Sauk Centre; two nephews, whom she raised, David Shonka and Ronald Johnson; granddaughter, Krystal Kay Shonka; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Ann (Botzet) Marthaler; husband, John "Jack" Moineau on March 2, 1978; sisters, Crescenthia Johnson and Rose Illies; and brothers, George, Joseph, Al, Vincent, David and Jimmy Marthaler.
Serving as casket bearers will be Tom Merten, Mike Illies, June Lombard, Connie Sell, Bruce Shonka and Tom Marthaler. Cross bearer will be Krystal Kay Shonka and honorary bearers will be staff from St. Michael's Nursing Home.
