Catherine A. Hoppe, age 98 of New Munich, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 6th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Rev. Roger Klassen O.S.B. will officiate with Rev. Art Hoppe concelebrating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 pm on Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and Thursday from 10 to 11 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. St. Anne's Christian Mothers, Little Flower Mission Group and the Catholic Aid Society will pray at 6 pm followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Catherine Hoppe was born on June 14, 1904 in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Anton and Margaret (Klein) Nathe. She was united in marriage to Mathias Hoppe on November 17, 1926 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The couple farmed near New Munich until moving to town in 1956. Catherine was a homemaker all her life who enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich where she sang in the church choir, St. Anne's Christian Mothers, Little Flower Mission Group, and the Catholic Aid Society.
Survivors include her children, Leroy Hoppe and his wife, Jeanette of Melrose; Etheline Spanier and her husband, Melvin of Paynesville; Richard Hoppe and his wife, Florence of New Munich; Mary Catherine Krueger and her husband, Daniel of Jackson, WI; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, John Nathe and Margaret Roering of Melrose; Loretta Linn of Freeport; sister-in-law, Armella Nathe of New Munich.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Margaret Nathe; husband, Math Hoppe on April 20, 1986; son, Celestine Hoppe; daughter, Kathleen Hoppe; brothers, James, Anton, Casper, George, and Rev. Gerard Nathe, OSB.
Serving as casket bearers will be Joseph Hoppe, Steven Spanier, Jim Hoppe, Jeron Hoppe, Daryl Hoppe and Thomas Hoppe. Cross bearer will be Denise McRae with Douglas Spanier as scripture bearer and lector. Honorary bearers will be St. Anne's Christian Mothers and Little Flower Mission Group.
