Carolyn M. Cornell, age 70, of Edina, formerly of Sauk Centre, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011 at her home in Edina after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 at the Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel, 5000 West 50th Street at Highway 100 in Edina.A Celebration of Life will also be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Carolyn Mae Cornell was born January 13, 1941 in Crookston, Minnesota to Glenn and Olga (Bakkela) Cornell. She was a 1959 graduate of Sauk Centre High School and went on to graduate from Minnesota State University-Mankato and the Northwestern School of Nursing. She began her career at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis and for the last 31 years worked as an orthopedic nurse practitioner assisting Dr. Robert Wengler in his Minneapolis practice. She was a dedicated nurse loved and adored by all her patients. Carolyn was a former member of First United Church of Christ in Sauk Centre.

Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth (Sara) Cornell of Ormond Beach, FL and Robert (Martha) Cornell of St. Louis, MO; nieces, Judy (Mark) Methner of Charlotte, NC, Katy (Nathan) Rachman of Ormond Beach, FL, Mary Cornell of Woodbury, and Julie Cornell of Minneapolis; nephew, Andrew Cornell of New York, NY.

She was preceded in death by her parents.Urn bearer will be Ken Cornell. Honorary bearer will be Valois Bang.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the International Myeloma Foundation or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation of Minneapolis.
