Carol S. Zimmerman, age 64 of Sauk Centre, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 18, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 22 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Steve Hayden will officiate with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Carol Suzanne Zimmerman was born October 29, 1942 in Comstock, Minnesota to Erhardt and Adeline (Possehl) Johnk. She was a graduate of Moorhead High School, attended college in Winfield, Kansas and received an associate's degree in business from the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. She married Dennis Zimmerman on August 23, 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, Minnesota. Since 1967 the couple had resided in Sauk Centre. Carol had been employed at Holy Family School and the Minnesota Home School before working 32 years at Sauk Centre Elementary School as the library supervisor. She retired in 2002.Carol was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, co-chaired Ladies Aid, was church secretary, was a member of the prayer chain and watered plants and flowers. She also served as treasurer and secretary of Lutheran Women's Missionary League, on the board of directors for the western Stearns County chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and was a youth counselor for Active Christian Teens (ACT). She was also a member of Mainstreet Woodies Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, Five Hundred Club, Anniversary Club, Red Hoofs Red Hat Group, Leftovers Homemakers Club and Gradatim Club.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Zimmerman of Sauk Centre; three children and five grandchildren, Joey (Chanda) Zimmerman (Melia) of Duluth, Debbie (John) Mayo (Lindsay and Tyler) of Brooklyn Park, David (Deb) Zimmerman (Megan and Taylor) of Redmond, Washington; sisters, Nancy (Larry) Cuklanz of Granite Falls and Rosemarie Johnk of Moorhead; sister-in-law, Darlene (Robert) Borene of Owatonna.

She was preceded in death by her parents.Serving as casket bearers will be Don Fritzlar, Jerry Beuning, Paul Borgmann, Herb Peters, Kent Beissel and Robert Borene. Honorary bearers will be Eileen Fritzlar, Kaye Beuning, Pat Borgmann, Alice Peters, Judy Beissel, Jerome and Renee Beddow, Bob and Shirley Wensman, Ralph and Mary Ann Braun, Erv and Mona Kohorst, Jerome and Carol Pelkey, Dave and Dorothy Schulzetenberg, Kevin and Cheri Dessinger.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sauk Centre Elementary School Library, where Carol inspired so many children to read.
