Carmella M. Worms, age 88 of New Munich, died Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Pine Haven Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 25 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Monday evening followed by the rosary at 7 p.m. led by St. Anne's Christian Mothers, Catholic Aid Council, Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle, and VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.

Carmella Margaret Petermeier was born May 10, 1921 in Melrose Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Henry and Elizabeth (Zirbes) Petermeier. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Little Falls and received her teaching degree from St. Cloud Teacher's College. She was united in marriage to Edmund Worms on June 25, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. Carmella taught in one room school houses in various rural school districts, two years at Sacred Heart School in New Munich, finishing the majority of her teaching career at St. Mary's Catholic School in Melrose. Carmella retired after 42 years of teaching. Carmella and Ed also spent their summers operating the St. Rosa Resort on Big Birch Lake for 22 years and spent 17 winters in Surprise, Arizona during their retirement. Carmella enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, walking, entertaining, spending time with her grandchildren and she especially enjoyed dancing with Ed. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, St. Anne's Christian Mothers, Immaculate Conception Catholic Aid Council, Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle, and a life member of Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children, Steve (Shirley) Worms of New Munich, Katherine (Robert) Statz of Onamia, Eva Mae (George) Kluempke of Cold Spring, Naomi Casebolt of Apple Valley, and Matthew (Sue) Worms of Freeport; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Eunice Casey and Loyola Jenkins both of California, Betty LaFriniere of Crystal, Delbert (Dolores) Petermeier of Melrose, William "Bill" Petermeier of Elk River, Anthony "Tony" (Jackie) Petermeier of Bloomington, Jeanette Barth of Melrose, Joanne (John) Welle of Paynesville, and Tom (Pat) Petermeier of Alexandria; and sister-in-law, Pat Petermeier of Melrose.

Carmella was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Petermeier; husband, Edmund Worms on December 10, 2005; brothers, George, Richard, Joseph, and Steven Petermeier; and sisters, Marie Meyer and Lucille Petermeier.

Serving as casket bearers will be Mark Statz, Mike Statz, Grant Kluempke, Dustin Casebolt, Christopher Worms, Carl Worms, Brian Worms, and Aaron Worms. Cross bearer will be Rachel Clark and scripture bearer will be Neil Worms. Honorary bearers will be St. Anne's Christian Mothers, Immaculate Conception Catholic Aid Council, Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle, and the VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.
