Beverly J. “Bev” Scherping, age 77 of Freeport, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer on Monday, December 30, 2019 at CentraCare Health Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Dan Walz officiating and Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. concelebrating. Family interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. from the Christian Mothers Friday evening at the church.
Beverly Jean Pierskalla was born March 8, 1942 in San Pedro, California to Phillip and Marie (Korman) Pierskalla. She graduated from Holdingford High School. Bev married Everett Scherping on June 21, 1960 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel, Minnesota. She was the bookkeeper for Scherping Electric for 45 years.
Bev was a fantastic cook. She enjoyed quilting and gardening flowers. Bev always gave her heart and was always making sure everyone else was taken care of before herself.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport and the Christian Mothers. Bev was the Christian Mothers President. She also volunteered a lot of her time at the Sacred Heart Church and School. Bev was a very prayerful person.
Survivors include her husband, Everett Scherping of Freeport; children, Russell (significant other, Lisa Davis) Scherping of Hugo, Michelle (John) Potter of Pillager, Shawn (Paula) Scherping of Winsted, Kurt (Pam) Scherping of Freeport, Robin (Leo) Schwieters of Rogers; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Gail Bias of Waite Park; and brothers, Gary (Linda) Pierskalla of Freeport and Jeff (Rhonda) Pierskalla of Avon.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joyce Fischer; and grandson, Brandon Scherping.
Serving as casket bearers will be Cody Scherping, Dylan Scherping, Clinton Scherping, Abe Schwieters, Megan Scherping, and Erin Stevens. Cross bearer will be Haley Strange and scripture bearer will be Raven Schwieters. Lectors will be Emily Scherping, Dylan Scherping, and Brooke Scherping. Singing a special song will be Markku and Alysha Ravaska. Words of Remembrance will be read by Clinton Scherping. Gift bearers will be Gary Pierskalla, Gail Bias, and Jeff Pierskalla.
In lieu of sending thank-yous the family will be making donations to Bev’s charities she was passionate about.
