Betty Seelig

Betty G. Seelig, age 82 of Melrose and formerly of St. Paul, died on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 3 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in St. Paul with Rev. Christopher Wenthe officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church in St. Paul.

Betty Seelig was born on June 21, 1921 in Brasschaat, Belgium to Emiel and Hortense (Barfeld) Hellemans. She married George Seelig on October 6, 1945 in Antwerp, Belgium. Betty worked for West Publishing Company in St. Paul for 27 years. She enjoyed her grandchildren and being with her family. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in St. Paul.

She is survived by her children, Maria Kristina Hoppe and her husband, Virgil of Melrose and Roland Seelig and his wife, Sharon of Eagan; three grandchildren, Crystal Seelig of Colorado, Michael Seelig of Eagan and Steven Seelig of Inver Grove Heights; and brothers, Joseph Hellemans and Norbert Hellemans both of Antwerp, Belgium.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Emiel and Hortense Hellemans; husband, George S. Seelig on May 14, 1979; brother, Camiel Seynhaeve; and sisters, Georgette Van Hertbruggen and Monique Seynhaeve.

Serving as casket bearers will be Harold Hoppe, Mark Hoppe, Otto Schulze, Ralph Weaver, Michael Seelig and Steven Seelig.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
