Betty Melin

Betty R. Melin, age 84 of Sauk Centre, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 26 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating.

Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Betty Ruth Maihack was born November 3, 1926 near Crown, Minnesota in Isanti County. After graduating from high school, Betty worked as a secretary for the Creamette Company. She met and later married Dale Melin on June 23, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Crown, Minnesota. With Dale's job, the couple moved throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. In 1958, their son, Jim, was born. The family settled in Sauk Centre in 1969. Betty moved to St. Michael's Nursing Home in 2005. Betty loved to work and especially loved gardening, cooking, and cleaning. Betty also enjoyed working with mentally challenged.

Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was also active in her Birthday Club and Homemakers Group.

She is survived by his her husband of 59 years, Dale, of Sauk Centre and her son, Jim, also of Sauk Centre.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Going; and brother Chester Maihack.
