Betty Carlson

Betty J. Carlson, age 92, of Sauk Centre, left us to be with God on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Following is the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mike Carlson. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery following the service.

Betty Jean Laing was born April 21, 1925 in Breckenridge, Minnesota to James and Hazel (Rogers) Laing. She graduated valedictorian of her senior class from Breckenridge High School. She married Dr. Harvey E. Carlson on October 15, 1949. They started Main Street Chiropractic shortly after. Betty was the backbone of the clinic, doing all of the office, financial, and housekeeping responsibilities.

Her first child was born Julie Ann in 1954. Being born with spina bifida, she lived to the age of one. Her second child, Eric Alan, was born in 1957, her third child Carol Lynn was born in 1958, and her fourth child Steven Edward was born in 1966. She loved being a mom first and foremost. Her family was the center of her world.

Betty was a member of Eastern Star and a member of First Lutheran Church, where she also taught Sunday school. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, cross stitching, craft work, decorating her home, throwing parties, working in her beautiful flower gardens, and playing with the bridge group. Her favorite color was green.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Harvey Carlson of Sauk Centre; son, Eric (Donna) Carlson of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Tyler (Kate), Austin, Brance, and Cailynn Carlson of Sauk Centre; daughter, Carol Griffith (Jason) of Sauk Centre; grandson, Brett Griffith of Las Vegas, NV; and son, Steve (Dawn) Carlson of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Julie; and sisters, Helen Berry and Margaret Kadlec.

Serving as casket bearers will be Eric Carlson, Steve Carlson, Carol Griffith, Tyler Carlson, Brett Griffith, Austin Carlson, Brance Carlson, and Cailynn Carlson.
