Berthold Thoennes

Berthold "Bert" H. Thoennes, 73 of Freeport died Friday at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. The Golden Year Senior Citizens will pray at 4:30 p.m. and the Albany Knights of Columbus, Council #3628 will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the church.

Berthold H. Thoennes was born on June 25, 1930, in Freeport, Minnesota to Valentine and Christina (Heinen) Thoennes. He was united in marriage to Rose Marie Mehr on June 23, 1956 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Melrose. Bert graduated from Melrose High School in 1948. He began working at Fingerhut, Corp. in St. Cloud, MN in the summer of 1964. Bert retired after 28 years in 1992. Bert was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport and the Albany Knights of Columbus, Council #3628.

He is survived by his children; Rev. Roger Thoennes of Lastrup, Shirley Thoennes of Savage and Karla Thoennes of Fargo, North Dakota.

Bert was preceded in death by his wife; Rose Marie Thoennes on Sept. 15, 2003; parents; and son, Robert Thoennes on May 7, 1984.

Casket bearers will be Pete, Mike, and Tom Mehr, Tom Elfering, Steve Zwack and Steve Kortenbusch. Cross bearer will be Tammy Anderson.
